Ubuntu hangs before login?

For about an hour, a laptop that runs Ubuntu, no longer start. It comes the HP logo from the laptop, normal startup, and before the login screen comes from Ubuntu, the screen is completely purple and stays that way.

I think Ubuntu 18.04.1 - does anyone know what this is and what you can do there? I do not really know much about Linux.

Boot your computer via a bootable disk. If the monitor then shows the same error, it is:

The error may be dependent on the selected screen setting!

The screen turns purple and stays that way.

Then press the ESC or the F2 key to see the messages of the starting kernel. These are only obscured by the "purple screen".

Alternatively you can of course in GRUB by means of the e key (as edit) call the menu to the entry and there remove the entries quiet splash = silent and then continue with the ESC key or F10 the boot process, then you will be the output of the starting Systems can see.

It might also be worth trying the current Ubuntu version (18.10).
