I want to upgrade the RAM on my old laptop (from 8GB to at least 32GB). I still have such a laptop where the RAM modules can still be changed. I've already picked out the right modules and will order them tomorrow.
My question: a relative asked me if he could have the old modules. Are they valuable? (do you get at least 20 euro for it on ebay)?
Or is it worthwhile to store the RAM modules (in the closet "for bad times")
I would see if the laptop also supports 32GB RAM
Yes. Even up to 64GB!
Can the laptop be 2x16gb let alone 2x32gb?
Can mostly only workstation laptops.
Yes.
What makes you so sure?
8gb DDR3 sodimm go away for ~ 25-35 euro depending on the module
It depends on when they are - just have a look on ebay. You can't say that without more precise specifications of the laptop (better still the RAM bar). Look for the serial number
If 32GB are supported this is possible. Useful? Also depends on the processor clock speed. I would rather "mothball" laptops that are too old (no upgrade or dismantling because of old RAMs 20-EUR etc.) but keep them operational (also as data storage) and prefer to buy an inexpensive new one. (depends of course on the "wallet").
It depends on what kind of RAM it is. But why 32GB anyway?
