I'm going to get a product key for Overwatch on Battle.net soon and just want to be sure for now: How complicated is the controls on the laptop? Can I also play it with a gamepad?
For me, complicated means like the controls on Assassin's Creed or similar games like the Batman Arkham games. Feels like thirty different keys for the game. Or is it as easy on Overwatch as it is on Valorant or… Um Mincecraft? Typically stops A, W, S, D and a few more keys.
I think the examples you give can best be compared to Valorant (except that you have to move a lot more).
I can only recommend a mouse and keyboard. The controls themselves are not very complicated either.
Overwatch is your typical MP shooter. So more to Valorant and so on…
It may work with a gamepad, but then you have an extreme disadvantage.

Strongly advise against playing it with a controller, because then you won't stand a chance against keyboard players.
PS: Overwatch used to be cool but is now really dirty.

Why now dirt?
Well, the gamepad is also bad because you have to turn around a lot (especially with some characters (Tracer, Genji, …)).

Controls are very simple, just a few buttons
WASD, 3-4 buttons for skills, reloading, hero switch and space. The remaining buttons are not relevant (emotes, sprays, sayings, …)
There are haters for every game and in ranked mode (like in every other online competitive title) you have sometimes toxic gamers.
Overwatch is a comic-style arcade shooter and plays a lot faster than Valorant. It's a matter of taste.
So I can only give my own opinion: It's a lot of fun, especially when you play it with friends.

The game was great for me back then and my account is also very high. Searched the game day in and day out and it was incredibly cool.
But the game just destroyed itself and you just notice that there's no more love in the game. More details on my hatred of the game can be found in my post on this question.

Are not many buttons. Normally you only use W, A, S, D, Shift, E and Q. You don't need more for the game. And it's a lot easier on PC than on PS

Personally, I don't particularly notice the lack of balancing. But of course it also depends on what you value while playing, with and against which characters you get along, how competitively you play and with whom you play.
Personally, I'm more of a casual gamer who hasn't played ranked at all for a few seasons.
