on Thursday I have my first video conference and I'm asked to download it. So far so good, now my father said that I should replace the package from school with the package on my laptop because the links to the office programs would be much easier
Now my problem begins:
I have no idea how to drop my old package from my PC or download the new one
I can't reach my father at the moment and either I was too incapable of googling properly or I just didn't understand it.
Also: what happens to all my files? Are they just gone? Do I have to reinstall everything?

No, it's not like that.
Office 365 has been made available to you. We have that too. So don't uninstall Office. You can register there at portal.office.com

Edit: OFfice 365 can't be downloaded. This is only for online things.
Of course you can download and install Office 365, be it for private, school or business. If you have paid for a subscription or another license model, you can find it in your Microsoft account. So I have Office 365 on my private computer and also at work on the computer.
