I would like to wish for a new lens at Christmas, and possibly if it is more expensive also something to head. Now my laptop is very bad or has too little RAM for fast application with Photoshop and Lightroom. And all my photo folders are also overloaded. That's why my question PC or lens. The lens is also totally important to me because I have just such a cheap potrait lens, and now would like to have a better one. I need your opinions.
Basically, you have to weigh yourself: Do you prefer good source material or is your main topic image post-processing.
But there's an argument for the lens:
You can also process good pictures faster and better in a year or two (if the money is there for a new computer), bad pictures remain bad and are irretrievable.
Basically, I would say take what you more useful but think that a new PC is better.
Even with a fairly cheap lens, you can take very good pictures, you usually have to work more in the raw file afterwards.
Do you want to replace your lens or do you want to supplement one eg. New focal length? With the latter, I would definitely be the lens. This creates new opportunities that you did not have before.
Do you want to make a 50 1.4 out of a Canon 50 1.8? Hm relativizes it a bit. Depending on the lens, the "performance gain" is not exorbitantly large and will eventually come at a very very expensive price.
On the other hand. As long as your notebook copes with the pictures. Works everything you want. Although slow, but it works. A new external HDD does not cost the world because you have little money quickly 1TB and rest first
Without knowing what exactly you have before you'd tend to the lens.
Possibly the Sigma 35mm 1.4. Schonmal have already considered the 1.8 1.8. Right now I guess exactly the 50mm 1.8. Hmm… I also thought about an external one… Unfortunately, many things do not fit on my pc (also the graphics)
The must have lens at Canon. For the money just too good not to have them 85mm focal length I like one of my favorite lenses on my Sony. Or the 50s Loxia, full manual makes fun again and again.
Of course it is difficult to estimate. Because you often use a notebook otherwise and can also have advantages here.
For me, the fun that I have when photographing with a good lens outweighs. Since I take a slow pc (which I would only use for it) in purchase. Although I did not have the problem even in the extreme, therefore, I have to write out of my stomach out.
