Which controller for Dark Souls 2/3?

I bought Darksouls 2 and 3 and realized that I need a controller to play. But the biggest question I have is: which controller should I get. I've heard that the Xbox 360 controller is supposed to be good, but I'm not sure if it really works with either game, let alone if it even connects to my laptop (Windows 10 Home 64 bit)

That's why I wanted to know if you could recommend the ideal controller to me. After 1 week of searching I didn't really find anything.
