A project is already running, it's Pokemon Dragonball Z Team Training, this is a Pokemon hack game made of fire red and leaf green, there are only fighters from Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT and also Dragonball Super.

I would make diamond, pearl or platinum, because you can also talk about the remakes that will appear in the future, make assumptions or throw in news.
In addition, you can give new fans who want to buy the remake a foretaste of what Pokemon there's, how the region is structured, etc.
But this is also a good game for older fans. I know many who have Sinnoh as their favorite region and I can understand it too.
Red, blue, money etc would also be good, but that's pretty stale because Kanto (or at least the Pokemon of the region) is so often somehow involved (e.g. Alola / Galar forms).

The 4th generation were great games and got so much right. They're highly regarded in the Pokémon world (I'd say Top 3 Gens of All Time) and they're really cool to play with too.
But I would most likely choose platinum, as this again showed strong improvements compared to diamond and pearl.
But you wouldn't do anything wrong with Pokémon X either, that would be my opinion. In theory, Pokémon Emerald too, but like I said, there are a lot of good Pokémon games out there
Oh yes, I would either make diamond or pearl, with platinum the story and arena order is made a little different.
