Hi want to buy a computer? But don't I know if I buy a PC or a laptop? Which is better?

hu

Better performance, simply perform upgrades: PC.

Want to be portable: laptop

Gl

A PC is ALWAYS better than a Läppi.

PCs are cooled better, basically have more power than their laptop counterparts, you can upgrade them, repair them more easily, and and and…

So give me a budget, and what the calculator needs to do, I suggest a few parts.

ma

See a desktop PC like an oven, you buy it, set it up, connect everything, and you can do everything you can imagine. If defective, replace individual components.

A laptop is like a microwave, small, handy, mobile, can be set up anywhere, but is not as flexible or all-encompassing as the former. If it is defective, it is usually more worth buying a new one.

A laptop is also a PC…

YOU have to decide which one is better for you - depending on what you would like to do

Very good answer: short, concise and everything in there!

Dr

In terms of price-performance ratio, you usually get more performance for your money with a classic desktop PC and you can easily expand the hardware afterwards or replace it with better components.

However, a desktop PC is not per se better than a notebook and it rather depends on your own individual requirements. If you e.g. Mobility is important because you want to take the device to school or university, a notebook would be a better choice. The same applies if you do not have the space for a stationary computer in your apartment. A notebook can also be better there.

Ultimately, it also depends on what your budget is, what you can spend on it and what you want to do with it. A notebook is all it takes for office and surfing the Internet. If, on the other hand, you are interested in computer games, you either have to spend significantly more or just choose a stationary desktop PC.

Gl

Yeah, of course you're right ;-)

If I had the coal at the end of the year, I would very much like to buy a Läppi with a really hot Ryzen 4xxx and an RTX3060…

Unfortunately, this falls out because of "ground fog" ^^

First of all, my beloved (and still really good) i5-3570K is replaced by the Ryzen 3700X (for ~ 200, - thaler).

Let's see… When the new desktop Ryzen 4xxx come out, you can definitely snap the 3700X very cheaply ;-)

Hmm, well - I got a new motherboard from my 6 year old Alienware after a small defect, including a new graphics card… For a small price…

So the case is only 6 years old, everything else is new… I installed the SSD myself…

ma

Ask Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Siemens, … They laugh at you:-P But of course you can also change the glass plate and or the bulb in a microwave.

El

Why should they laugh at me… Alienware is from Dell if you don't know…

and it's always a question of price, whether you get reasonable service afterwards…

with DIY, you do not get any service, because you just exchange… At your own expense…

Ma

Seriously? Are you asking for a budget without knowing what you want to do?

What do you say when the requirement is "mobile work"? Is the desktop PC still better than a laptop?

ma

Alienware was once a private label and was bought by Dell ;-) The factory tapes from Dell and Alienware do not run together in one plant. Therefore I separate the 2nd

Gl

If you can read, you have a clear advantage… I also asked about the requirements, you clever kid.

Dr

I use both myself and everything has advantages and disadvantages. For a long time I only used stationary PCs and now mostly work more from my notebook. So I can also spontaneously crouch in the garden or fold it up and drive it to the customer.

I don't use the latest of the latest all the time, but as I need it to work. If technology is used for work, it is something different than someone who uses it as a hobby and to pass the time. So everyone must know for themselves.

Let's see… When the new desktop Ryzen 4xxx come out, you can definitely snap the 3700X very cheaply ;-)

I have been using Intel CPUs almost exclusively for ~ 20 years now, which for me is partly due to software reasons. The Ryzens from AMD are really good and maybe I can get one when the opportunity arises.

Gl

And if "mobile working" had the highest priority, the TE would not ask for a PC… Du Wirtzbold.

Gl

I hang almost only at home anyway, so my desktop is enough for me.

Of course, if I really needed a laptop, I would have one.

Just "for fun" I would also like to have one… But there are other parts on my wish list… New CPU (3700X, logically including a new board and fast DDR4 RAM)), larger SSD for my grand queen, new fridge, Telecaster and General overhaul of SG… Eventually a new audio interface…

This comment referred to "A PC is ALWAYS better than a Läppi."

If the questioner did not consider wanting to work on the move, or at least occasionally changing places, the question of laptop or desktop would not arise. The display is smaller, the keyboard is smaller, the touchpad is too fiddly to use.

I really missed the "what the computer has to do".

Gl

In terms of price / performance, a desktop PC is always better than a Läppi.

If a laptop were absolutely necessary, I would of course recommend a laptop.

The question was, do I take a laptop OR a desktop PC… I would ALWAYS prefer a desktop…

Buddy @medmonk explained the advantages of a laptop nicely.

We all "read" something ;-)

Happens to me slowly and more often… Must be related to age ^^

El

Still you get support from Dell, with an Alienware device… At least it was with me…

The Läppi is sold anyway, now I only have XMG from Schenker… (Bestware)
