I downloaded a driver for my Dell laptop from the official Dell website (so definitely not a virus) and to run it I need the adminpw of the laptop. Although I even typed in the correct password several times, the program did not accept it. I even reset my laptop, got a new password, but it says the pw is still wrong. But I can use the administrator password to set a different one (which means that it was correct after all). Even with that it doesn't work.
What can I do?
Which laptop model is it? What is the exact Windows version? Is it about the execution of the installation program for the driver or the execution. Of the driver?
The password that was set up for your MS account is usually correct. This happens at the end of the installation. You can check and change this on the MS page. Resetting the system was unfortunately the wrong approach.
https://account.microsoft.com/...home-index
If the presumed password is not accepted there, there's a field "I forgot my password". You will then receive a new password, which you can then change in a personalized manner.
The above password is that for the user admin account (main account). There's also the system administrator account, which has a different password. However, this should not be required for a driver installation. I install all drivers with normal user admin rights.
Accidentally activated capitalization key?
I have a Dell Latitude E6430 with Windows Pro x64. Since the dwonload is only 8MB in size, I assume that it's just the driver's installer.
I have included a screenshot with the addition of the question, which should describe my problem a little better. I already used the MS password, but unfortunately it still didn't work.
I also had to reset the system one way or another because of my studies, which will start soon (and far too many unnecessary files were still on it) ^^ So I hoped that I could solve 2 problems at the same time with the reset.
No, it lights up when I press it - I would have noticed it immediately
The window on your screen appears if you are logged in with an account - without administrator rights - (standard user). You are then simply not allowed to install any drivers. Log in to the system with your administrator account. Then you should be able to install without a problem.
If that doesn't work, log into the system with the system administrator account. You have to set this up beforehand by activating the account for login selection. To do this, open the command prompt (administrator) and enter the command
net user administrator / active: yes
If you use it to log in on the login screen, press Enter when prompted for a password if you have not set up a password for the account.
This account has the highest rights under Microsoft. For security reasons, use it only briefly for a necessary case and log out again after an action and log back in with your normal user account.
By the way: I find resetting Windows not ideal. If necessary, I prefer to back up my own files, if they are on C at all, and do a complete new installation. If I want to solve a password problem, I have to disconnect the device from the MS account beforehand. Then I can delete the MS account. Then I can clean everything from scratch.
Exactly as you explained it, I have already tried but unfortunately without success. In addition, my current (and the one before) was the only user. When I then created a second user and gave him the Adim rights, it didn't work with him either

I asked the question again because the edit would be too long and even there nobody can find a solution why this is the case
