Does Minecraft Java run smoothly?

I have a laptop with an intel pentium p6200 and 4 gb ddr3 ram.

I bought Minecraft Java because I want to play with my friends. But it hardly worked at all, even after I installed OptiFine. Then I tried the Windows 10 Edition and it ran smoothly, which is also logical, it is programmed in C ++.

Anyway, I think it comes from the Ram (please correct me if I'm wrong). I have to install the free variant Linux or buy the expensive variant a Ram Stick. I would like to know whether it is sufficient to simply install Linux or whether I have to buy a new Ram Stick or whether it is actually due to my processor.

So it could well be that it is the Ram, I currently have a pretty old Amd fx-4300 processor and 12Gb ddr3 Ram, the game runs more than liquid for me.
