32-bit 64-bit operating system?

Question to the iT specialists:

I run a 64bit desktop and a 32bit laptop and I program in Delphi. On the 64-bit machine Delphi does not run, only on the 32-bit laptop.

The created programs run on both. How can that be, especially as it is at Delphi times, still no difference 32Bit and 64Bit. In addition, Windows 8, 8.1, 10 was not mentioned. Probably WIN 7 not yet. After all, Delphi is already "old".

fo

Just a note: If you do not get the Delphi running on the 64 bit calculator, try http://www.lazarus-ide.org/. The old Delphi on newer 64 bit Windows is not running will be on some system components, which are just in 32 bit. As long as you do not use any of them in your programs, just the programs work on 32 bit.

The 64bit architecture is "backward compatible" thanks to the WOW64 subsystem. On it also 32bittige applications run. On a 32bit system but no 64bit applications run.

Already at "Delphizeiten" there's already the difference between 32 Bit and 64 Bit.

Delphi also works with 32bit and 64bit systems. From 2011 there were XE2.

Gr

OK, I would have to try it again, thank you

Gr

I already say that the programs run without problems on 64bit systems. Only Delphi itself, so the development environment, I get only on the 32bit machine to run. So it's not about the programs but about the IDE.

fo

Lazarus is Delphi-compatible, free IDE…

Gr

So, Delphi32 bit is now running on the 64-bit machine. However, with the error message that any XYZ. $$$ file can't be renamed inXYZ.dot.

Maybe that refers to the CD, no idea. But it works.

Gr

As I have seen, the surface of Lazarus is in English. Is it possible to switch to German? Would be very helpful, since there's apparently little to no literature on Lazurus.

fo

The IDE is German, the help only in English.

Gr

Not bad, there's no help at all in Delphi. But I still have 2x Delphi for child, there's, at least coarse, much described.

Gr

Again the error message, but only for those who are interested:

All I had to do was run DELPHI with administrative privileges, after that everything was i.o.
