From Ethernet to WLAN?

At the moment, I only have Internet connection if I connect my laptop via a LAN cable (or Ethernet cable, is that the same thing?) To the small box on the wall (presumably the modem?).

The cable salad is annoying and I want to cable without a laptop and mobile phone to the Internet. Do I just need to plug a router into the modem? Are there certain routers? Can you recommend one?

Moin you new friend of the Internet,

In order to best cost your activity on the net, you need a full-fledged router. The best is because a Fritzbox (also frit) called.

AVM manufactures these things and is therefore very well represented in the market. The user interface is sometimes a bit incomprehensible, because some options are hidden in submenus whose logic is not revealed. Well no matter.

I have the Fritzbox 3490, which has no ISDN connection, so you can't connect a landline phone.
If you need it, the 7490 is probably the best.

You need a

From Ethernet to WLAN

https://de.wikipedia.org/...cess_Point. The s. G. WLAN router is a combination of access point, router and tlws. Telephone system etc.

If you really only WLAN, it goes much cheaper than z. B. The FritzBox. A simple, good and cheap device is this: https://geizhals.de/...cription=1 However, the Fritz boxes have the advantage that they are easy to understand and there's a good support and enough Usergroups.

Personally, I would always put on LAN where possible and only on mobile use on Wi-Fi. WLAN is right susceptible to interference and slow.

then go to this "box" and write on what's written (type / model), mostly below…

so that you can tell if this thing has already built Wi-Fi…

and you get a usable WLAN-AP at 20.

I know that WLAN is more susceptible to interference. However, my experience with LAN is: the cable jerks constantly, kinks with frequent use and breaks down and also I stumble constantly on the cable that runs across the room.
