Replace normal SSD with m.2 (laptop)?

I thought about upgrading my laptop with an M.2 SSD. Of course, I wanted to first check whether I had an M.2 connection, so I opened my laptop before I order something. In any case, now I know that I have the intended connections on my mainboard, but the plugs are not soldered on…

Now I noticed that I could theoretically replace my existing SSD (256 GB). But I don't know whether the connection also supports M.2 SSDs. Can someone help me there? Mainboard: MS-17C5

The connection for his SSD and an M.2 SSD are different, this will not work

What's the difference in the connections? Outwardly, they actually look the same

Mo

You didn't have a pure SSD because the connection looks different - this is already an M.2 SSD

If there wasn't one in there before, it won't be anything. This type of connection is known from M2's, but the slots can also just run with sata and are quite popular with laptops because of the form factor. M2 is not necessarily M2.

Point is, what are you actually hoping for from this? Ne NVME vs ne SATA that was installed there beforehand would hardly bring you any advantages even if it works.

My read / write speed is somehow not that high, thought it was just a normal SSD. Then at least I now know that it is an M.2 and can install a larger one.
