Full laptop storage?

I got a code for a game that is 9.4 Gb, but I only have 3.41 Gb free on the hard drive and I don't know what is taking up that much space:
The biggest program I've found is 1.31 Gb and that's Microsoft Office. The second largest is only 530 Mb. And from positions 5-6 there are only 200-100 Mb. What uses up so much storage space? Okay, you can't step into my eyes and tell me what it is, but still: Can't 10,000 different 500-10 Kb files fill the 256 Gb storage space?
Is there something that takes up a lot of disk space to begin with? E.g. The operating system?
I know it's a very stupid, more of a "rash" question, because you should know if the operating system takes up a lot of memory, but you can be wrong, right?

What kind of system? How big is the plate? Question after question. Of course, Windows alone takes up 50-100GB.
