I have a desktop PC at home running Linux Ubuntu and an older laptop running Manjaro Linux. I was hoping that I might be able to use the laptop as a second screen for my desktop (maybe via software?). Have you got an idea?
For that you would have to take the laptop apart.
This might have to be done via a Thunderbolt Dock, in any case you can use it to work on your desktop from your laptop. Conversely, I don't know.
Forget it, it doesn't work
That's fine. But it's quite complicated.
You have to create a second virtual screen (I think via xrandr) and send it to the other laptop via the xserver or VNC. The probability that this will work is very small, because you have to play so much together. And then you also have a lot of latency with you.
I also believe that ubuntu is now also relying on wayland and then you can forget that, because wayland has no network transparency for security reasons.
OK, too bad.
