I'm sitting here on the above-mentioned laptop - I think - 2004 (there's at least a number at the bottom) with an Intel 2.10GHz processor, two cores and it is very slow.
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, fan probably dusty over time, unpleasant touchpad, but the worst thing is the performance. It takes FOREVER to boot up, when you open a document, sometimes ignores the clicks, if it is willing, it takes at least 15 seconds again, uff.
Upgrading answers in the direction of Windows, throwing away the computer, buying a tool or cleaning the fan is of no use to me, since I'm only with relatives for a short time and I do not own the laptop.
What exactly is your question?
The problem can only be solved by hardware intervention.
See the addition.
Since motivational speeches or pagan rituals are not exactly known to have an effect on PCs, and you yourself say that you can't otherwise make any changes to the PC, you can't do anything in this situation.
Otherwise my suggestions would be e.g.
Disable or uninstall unnecessary programs that run in the background.
Install SSD
Expand RAM
Reinstall Windows completely
Or maybe a new device.
But none of this seems to be an option.
Exactly, none of that works. Still good suggestions if I want to upgrade my own laptop a little.
Hmm. I'm guessing a slow hard drive in the speed problem. However, this can't be remedied without exchanging the hard drive (ideally for an SSD).
the only thing you could do on the software side would be to start the CCleaner (but be careful!):
Such an old device can still be used with the free operating system Cloudready without spending any money. This turns the laptop into an extremely fast Chromebook. Here is the download: https://www.neverware.com/freedownload
You need the USB Maker and an empty formatted USB stick with at least 8GB. After the stick has been created, simply boot it and follow the instructions of the installer. It erases the entire hard drive and then installs Cloudready. After the installation is complete, the system is restarted.
Then comes the facility. The WLAN is recognized automatically. Have your network key ready. Then simply log in with your Google account. Your Chromebook is now ready. In the settings in the Media Plugins section, Flash and Codecs can be installed with just one click. Then restart again. All updates run fully automatically in the background so that you don't have to do anything yourself.
Even on such an old system, the browser starts without delay. You can create, edit and view documents via Google Text, spreadsheets and presentation (can be installed later via the Chrome Web Store). PDF documents are displayed directly without installing anything. The voice control OK Google also works.
If you have a WLAN-capable printer, you can also print with it.
Here is a video of what it looks like: https://videos.chip.de/p/1741931/sp/174193100/serveFlavor/entryId/1_fkslx2p1/v/1/flavorId/1_ibfm7ogp/name/a.mp4?t=1456247465000
Thanks, but it is already installed.
Don't know if my relatives think it's so great if I just install a new system on them. But thanks for the suggestion, can also be used in the future.
Cloudready is easy to use. Even those who have never used a computer can handle it.
Already executed?
Jo, you don't notice much, I'm just running the drive defragmenter in the background
