DirectX version problems?

A game requires DX11 version 10.0. DirectX version 12 is installed on my laptop (Win 10), but the game does not start due to a version error of DX.

Can I somehow downgrade DX or otherwise get the game up and running on my laptop?

Just try to start the game in Windows 7 or Vista compatibility mode.

I start it on Steam. There's no such choice or I do not know where.
