I received the order on Friday to get a laptop for conferences on Monday. The offices will be closed due to corona. I've never been a laptop person, now I've rummaged out my old one (knocked on additional camera and Wi-Fi - now it's internet-ready, but I hardly ever see my colleagues and the voices don't come in.

The part is totally old.

Now a friend says he still has a netbook with Windows 10 and 2GB of RAM. He says that should be enough.

can someone tell me if it works?

With my old iPhone 6 (no s) it works perfectly…

but staring at the phone for 5 hours is not my thing.

Sry, but 2gb is too little. On your iPhone is iOS, this changes the actions so that you need a lot less memory

I can't say that with sufficient qualification, but only on my gut I would think that it is enough.

Whether because of a quarantine or as a mere precautionary measure by the company: Many employees are currently working from home. Many are likely to use their own PC and private telephone. Which begs the question: Do you actually have to?

From a purely legal point of view, the answer is clear:
"Nobody is obliged to make their private hardware available to the employer," says labor lawyer Alexander Bredereck. It does not matter whether there's an official agreement to work from home or whether it has only been agreed verbally with the company.
"It is the employer's job to ensure that the necessary conditions are met," says the expert

The question is just how much RAM the system is already drawing. For Jitsi in Edge you need about 300 MB without video, a little more with video. With 500 MB free it should actually work. Of course it is helpful if nothing is running except Edge; So also deactivate / end all unnecessary programs in the autostart / task manager
