Hello, I just saved some important emails on my laptop but accidentally pressed open with Firefox. If I open the file now, I only come to a website where the email is shown in encrypted form. Can I get it back somehow? I've already deleted them from the trash. I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird.
You have saved the emails in the email format as they are transmitted.
Give the files the extension ".eml". Then you should be able to open it again with Thunderbird.
In the picture it looks different because I then clicked open again with editor.
I have now added .eml to the files, but unfortunately everything still looks the same.
What can be seen in the editor is the beginning of the file? If so, then that is not the complete mail, the mail header is missing, that would be several lines above. That could be the reason why Thunderbird doesn't want to open the files as eml.
I just dragged the files onto my phone and renamed them to eml. Now I can open it again!
