Hi, I want to replace the rear brake pads on my VW Passat B8 and have to put the electronic parking brake in the "service position". For this you need a plug as the interface between laptop and car. On Google I found the "original" for over 600 euro, but also a clone from China for under 50 euro. Now my question is: Do I absolutely need the original or is it also possible with the clone or do you have other tips on how to do it.
I just don't have the VCDS software.
There's another way and without software.
Before jacking up the car in neutral position and ignition, so that all wheels can turn without problems.
the wheel down and then you can see the servomotor on the brake. You can unscrew it (2x Torx 40 or 50 I think) then you see an Allen key (6mm or 8mm) so the shaft that the motor moves. You can do this yourself Then turn the hand so far that you can replace the disks. As soon as you are finished, simply screw on the motor. This will then automatically turn to the normal position if you switch on and off the parking brake once after ignition.
Instead of spending EUR50 on something (shipping and VAT will be added) what you need 5 minutes and then years no more, I would ask the hobbyist scene whether someone can lend it (also for money).
You can only activate the software with the plug. I paid 500 euro at the time. With China plugs, it can happen that the connection suddenly breaks when coding and you may cause damage to the control unit. Therefore, you'd better buy the original. There are often used for around 300 euro sometimes with classified ads which also put the piston back on you but they will not wait that long until you have replaced the brakes to put it back.
