Ditching plane replacement of valuables?

Are valuables such as notebooks and cell phones that break during an airplane ditching replaced by the airline?

Ro

Maybe yes, because that counts under the airline's luggage insurance.

Re

Have a ditch behind you? Or do you have one?

Mo

No, I would only be interested because it depends on whether I take my MacBook with me next time

Fa

If there's a ditching, there are much bigger problems than a MacBook… Then you may be lucky to have survived. ò.ó
You should always have backup of data anyway.

Re

After the pilot announced an emergency ditch, you don't really care what happens to your MacBook

Mo

I mean if you survived it afterwards

An

Yes of course - and not just in case of an emergency ditch! Why shouldn't they - but when does it happen?

The airline's liability is regulated by international agreements:

"If the checked suitcase or the checked travel bag arrives damaged or late or is lost on the way, the airline is liable - regardless of fault. This means that the airline, even without you or your employees for the damage or loss are responsible for the resulting damage.

This is regulated in the Montreal Convention (MT), which defines liability in international aviation. The MT is mandatory - the airlines must not circumvent the regulations in their conditions of carriage. For national air traffic, this results from Regulation (EC) No. 2027/97; their regulations are also indispensable.

However, the airline is only liable for the period in which the luggage is in its care. For example, if it is damaged during customs inspection, the airline does not have to pay for it.

In the case of luggage that has not been checked in, i.e. Cabin or hand luggage, the airline is only liable if the damage or loss can be attributed to accusable behavior on the part of the on-board personnel - i.e. Depending on fault. However, it is usually difficult to prove this. Therefore: You must ensure that your hand luggage arrives safely at your destination - especially when it comes to valuable or fragile items. "

But I think you have other things to worry about than losing a laptop.

I wouldn't take a ditch bill and confidently take my MacBook with me. Furthermore, after a ditch, you have greater problems than getting your MacBook wet (mental).
