Please declare it stupid. Because I want to buy a film, but I don't know what to buy now. I want to watch it on my laptop.

If your laptop doesn't have a blue ray drive, you won't be able to see a BR. You have to see for yourself what hardware you have. The quality of the BR is better than DVD, but just about any drive can play DVDs. BR is not so common in computers and costs extra if you want to. Mostly not in complete computers.

CD, Blue-Ray and DVD look very similar, but have completely different recording methods. (There are also very different formats on the respective data carriers.) The drive must be able to read the corresponding medium. The software must be able to process the data type.

More data fits on DVD than on CD, more on Blue-Ray than on DVD.

It really only helps to see what is built into your notebook or

you write what kind of notebook you have, preferably with a precise model name such as Lenovo IdeaPad S340

The whole letters and numbers after the name are important, because the equipment can vary a lot.

There are hardly any laptops with a BluRay drive, so you can forget that. It makes no sense to watch high-resolution content on a small display, because the DVD is enough.
