I want to buy a new laptop and do not know if 15.6 inches or 14 inches is better. I need it from time to time but otherwise I always have it at home. But since I will be studying soon, that may change. I only use the laptop for office work and Netflix. The only thing I will probably miss with the 14 incher is the numpad. What do you think is better? What are your experiences with the different sizes?
14-inchers are more portable
In your place I would first decide on the necessary equipment and then your budget.
14 or 13.3.
Everyone who says 15.6 here is either blind or has never had to carry a notebook around for a long time.
I currently have a Lenovo L490 and that is perfect all around for applications like yours.
At home TV with Chrome Cast or cheap monitor ran.
My work tool is a 15.6 HP ProBook. Simply an unnecessary tank and is only used locally. When working for a long time, 15 is too small, I have expanded display with a 24 "and the 15.6 screen then only for mails and Co.
My budget is up to 500 euro and an I5 or Ryzen 5 would be important to me
My feeling tells me you won't find a 14-inch model there. Since you will have to go if over 500 euro.
Smaller is more portable. Don't forget that you can connect a monitor or TV at home.
If you really work with numbers a number pad is really helpful. In the end, you have to decide for yourself whether you prefer it to be compact or large, wide and comfortable. Opinions of other users are actually not helpful if you rely on it alone.
There are now enough different pixel widths that FullHD is also possible with 15 inches, but that would be too small for me. So if I take a device under 17 inches, it will be as portable as possible, i.e. Small. Then maybe even a "convertible" or a tablet with a case with a built-in keyboard. The convertible / tablet would also have the advantage that you can write handwritten notes on it - especially sketches can hardly be realized just as quickly.
D.H. I recommend either 17 "or convertible / tablet, the size of which you would have to worry about - I have no experience of my own with sizes between 3.5-inch smartphones and 13-inch monitors.
