Hearts of Iron 4 multiplayer performance?

I bought Hoi4 about 2 weeks ago and I noticed relatively quickly that my performance online is not good. I play with two friends and it is just that after a while I'm 4 days behind, the higher the speed the more serious the problem.

One of the friends I play with actually has very similar specs to me. Games on a laptop. Ryzen 5 2500U, Vega 8 Mobile, 8 GB RAM. My friend has n i5-8250U, 8 GB RAM, MX150.

The question: is this due to the graphics unit? And can I do something about it?
