Left menu bar in the folder gone - how to restore?

I have a hopefully simple question.

Whenever I open a folder on my laptop, I have a menu bar on the left with various folders (e.g. Desktop, pictures, files; music, videos, downloads, hard disk-C, hard disk-D, etc.).

But now she's gone all of a sudden.

Can someone explain how I can restore this?

Go to the top to organize and then to layout and tick the box again at the navigation area.
