Hi
I have a question. My 2 year old HP notebook only has 8 Gb Ram and is very, very slow.
Today I unscrewed my laptop and saw that there was another space available to insert a ram. What do I have to pay attention to and what requirements must the RAM meet in order to be compatible. Does it just have to fit in with the shape or do you have to pay attention to more? Can I also add a 12 Gb Ram next to an 8 Gb Ram?
First of all, please give the complete breakdown of the core components of your book and please also indicate the intended use.
Otherwise we don't even need to continue here.
8GB is not that little at all, if the device runs slowly you should consider installing an SSD hard drive. For example, I only have 4GB RAM, but an SSD hard drive and my laptop runs super fast.
But to your question:
There should be a number on the already built-in RAM. Example "PC3-10600S"… And you should make sure that the new RAM is ideally the same. This number represents the type and speed of the RAM and it works best when it says the same on both.
It is also best if the 2nd RAM also has 8GB. So that 2x8GB are built in. Of course, 1x8 and 1x4 would also work, but it is best if both have the same capacity.
My ssd has 128 GB and 7 GB of it is free, and I have to set up my PC again for the Easter holidays. Unfortunately, I don't have time at the moment and I currently need the programs on my laptop for school. It would take too long to reinstall everything. But if I had more ram and a freshly installed laptop then it would be very fast again.
A little more information about your laptop and what you need it for would be helpful.
8GB is actually still sufficient for office applications. If so, you have to make sure that the technical data match, i.e. CL value, MHz etc. Then only DDR3 and DDR3 or DDR4 with DDR4 fit together.
I'm not sure if I missed anything, but since when has a 12GB RAM bar been around 🤔? If then add a second 8GB module.
So basically I had found exactly the same Ram on Amazon. https://www.amazon.de/...07JRDCQDL/
Unfortunately this is not available. Are there alternatives that also fit in?
Would have found another one on ebay

What kind of processor do you have? With an AMD Ryzen, a complete RAM upgrade kit with more MHz might even be worthwhile.
Many Thanks. I have an Intel Core I5 processor
OK, the Intel CPUs work quite efficiently even with slower RAM. It would actually be sufficient if you simply upgrade your current one with the same one.
