So I have an Omen 17 laptop from hp where the battery is very bloated. I had long noticed that my touchpad was pushed up a bit but I didn't think much of it carelessly and I just used it for 1.5 years. When a friend of my mother looked at the laptop, he said that the battery had inflated and that there was an acute risk of explosion or fire. I was abroad at the time so nothing else happened. Since I'm back now I had inquired again and there's everywhere on the Internet that such a battery should be removed and disposed of immediately as there's always a risk of fire.
So after the long comments Now finally my question:
can I simply remove and dispose of the battery on my own or does it need a specialist?
I would have given the laptop to my local electronics store a long time ago, but unfortunately it is not possible with the current situation with the Corona virus.
So I hope you can help me there because I finally want the stupid battery out of my house.
As I know a laptop works without a battery at hp, it should be pretty easy to get it out
You can have the battery replaced during the guarantee period.
Some manufacturers do so even outside the warranty period.
Otherwise, do it yourself by getting the right battery and replacing it yourself. I also made mine, which also inflated after 2 years. The manufacturer ASUS would have done that on goodwill, only my daughter didn't want to do without the notebook for 2 to 3 weeks, so I did it myself. It's pretty easy. Just don't lose a screw and only open the back wall carefully and without force.
Many thanks for the answer!
but you mean nothing happens in the direction of fire or explosion when you remove it?
I did not say that. The fact is that the battery must be replaced immediately. A fire or explosion does not occur during replacement, but if the notebook is still operated.
