Hi
We will soon need our laptop in school more often, only it's just old (5+) heavy and very loud. It does not work without a cable, is too slow for the most programs, and has a hdd and I'm afraid to take the laptop with me.
What can I do? I can't afford a new one. The good things that last a long time (says my brother, computer scientist) already cost around 1000 that I do not have now (but also later)
My aunt, also in the IT industry, says the same, but that's because she has more demands. She would never get a cheaper one because she is only satisfied with the best of the best, but she also has enough money.
Nevertheless, she has recommended me even cheaper because she still knows what is good or better than others, is not the best, but still okay. Mine has cost me then 600 euro and I have him now for 6-8 years and he runs flawlessly.
Vlt, your brother can still recommend you one in a slightly different price range and still has a good price-performance ratio.
Well me, and many other people in my computer science study use quite cheap computers for studying. As a rule, desktops are still at home.
Such a 400 euro thing, maybe even a used notebook, is enough. They last for a long time if you treat them well.
Of course, there are also the people in the study who get a Macbook Pro for 2000 euro with touchbar or something, but they do not say that it has to be that or that. At least not those who are clearly in the head.
That's why a second hand purchase offers.
For example we use all old Thinkpads. The things are from the years 2011-2012 and therefore very cheap. There's also a large selection of different models.
The "cheap plastic" which Lenovo installed does not last much (I broke the edge of the screen on one side & the fan slots have broken in a buddy of mine, the corners are broken on the screen, although we both use extra laptop bags ), but you can still use these things without any restrictions & as it does not cost much, not much can be broken.
If necessary, you can increase the speed again by, for example, for 30 euro-40 euro a SSD installed & Linux installed on it (I have KDE neon on it, n buddy of mine Linux Mint). Then the boxes are running really fast again.
