I have just installed an m.2 SSD card in my Lenovo laptop. The SSD card is recognized by the BIOS, but booting up with an SSD takes almost the same time as without an SSD. There's also almost no time difference when opening larger programs. Does anyone have any idea what the reasons might be? Does it take a while for the SSD to boot up faster?

AHCI must be one. The connection to the laptop must also support the high speeds of the disk. This is not always the case, especially with older laptops.

Which M.2 SSD have you installed? Please times the exact model name. And how did you install the operating system on it? Newly installed or cloned?
If you don't put your operating system on the ssd then nothing can change, your Trabbi won't get faster just because it's in the same garage as the Ferrari.
AHCI is the SATA protocol, an m.2 SSD can be both SATA, but more likely a PCIe disk, which used the NVMe protocol.
Did you ever reinstall or transfer Windows to the SSD? If not, then it is natural. Of course, everything still runs as slowly as before, because Windows still starts / runs from the old hard drive
I installed the Corsair MP510. Unfortunately, I forgot to clone / reinstall on the SSD card… Will try again, maybe. Then it works

I have now transferred the operating system to my ssd. Now it only starts up for 30 seconds instead of 2.5 minutes.
Now I've cloned the operating system to my SSD and then formatted the old HDD. Now my laptop boots from the ssd and is a lot faster than before.
Moin, I have now unfortunately not checked whether it was switched on. According to other people, the SSD is supposed to adjust to whether IDE or AHCI. However, my operating system was able to clone to the SSD, making my pc boot up much faster now.
