How good are the Medion Akoya laptops really?

A friend is currently looking for a new, inexpensive laptop (up to 300 euro). Of course you can't expect miracles at such a price, but for multimedia consumption and for normal Internet use you should still find something "useful".

Among other things, there are those of Lenovo, which are quite okay equipped. But some Medion Akoya laptops she found outwardly appealing, but I have no experience with this brand and know only the bad reputation.

What are your experiences with this brand? Is the bad reputation correct (short life, frequent driver problems, frequent crashes, fast dying batteries and the like)? Gladly you can also make suggestions for other devices!

Fo

I had it once. Bought at Aldi. Was very dissatisfied. Has crashed often in the first few months. When that was under control, the battery is gone. I do not want to talk about customer service at all, because I just get upset.

Had then brought me a device from Acer and was very satisfied.

Yo

Oh, that's pretty much what I myself have heard about this brand over the years. Most complained about poor service, frequent repairs and unexplained problems.
Almost a pity, because the equipment is sometimes not so bad. But equipment is not everything, if the build quality has such defects.

Fo

At that time I also thought it would be a very good price-performance ratio. Even with a test in a computer magazine, the device had done well and was even recommended.

I do not know what others say. Maybe I only had a Monday device. No idea. But a burnt child is afraid of the fire. I would not buy a Medion model anymore.

Yo

Yes, that's exactly why I was also unsure. I recommend unwanted devices from manufacturers that I do not know myself. But the price-performance ratio actually hides one often. I do not pay attention to all the "test results" of magazines for a long time.

I do not pay attention to all the "test results" of magazines for a long time.

Yes, that's better. You can fall on your nose.

It would be good to know which device you are actually using. I certainly can't remember ever recommending something from Medion. Other manufacturers often have a larger and better choice of devices. However, I've compared laptops from Aldi to others in the past and have always found something with a better price-performance ratio.

As for the manufacturer, I always tend to ASUS, Lenovo and to various models of HP. I totally dissuade from Acer. As far as manufacturers are concerned, everyone will tell you something else.

You will not find anything appealing up to 300 euro. I recommend at least one device with a processor from Intel Core i3 or alternatively an AMD Ryzen 3. In addition, 8 GB of RAM and at best an SSD instead of an HDD, as an SSD provides again for a decent speed boost. From devices with a Celeron or Pentium processor I would leave the fingers.

Here is a Lenovo device for 333 euro: https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/...xge+480483

It is a 15.6-inch device with a Full HD display. Installed are an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. Furthermore, Windows 10 is already preinstalled.

Interesting, I have just made this experience the other way around! Medion through the bank TOP, I'm also writing this text on my new Akoya P17601. Acer is finally down with me, was repaired twice within four years and now the third repair would have been due. Since it was previously u.a. Twice around the battery went (no Verschleissteil, therefore no guarantee) I had paid for this Sch… Device again almost as much to repairs as originally as a purchase price.

Fo

Yes, really interesting, how different the experiences can be.

It's so. And when I look at the last "test" report, Medion owners have their devices the longest in possession, which speaks for everything but poor quality. In addition, the company has not in vain from Aldi home supplier to Germany's largest computer manufacturer managed (which, however, now belongs to Lenovo).
