I'm having a really big problem right now, sitting in front of my laptop and writing an important presentation for tomorrow's physics class on nuclear bombs. I'm about to finish, suddenly the whole screen turns gray and nothing works anymore. No task manager, no key combination, just everything in the ASch. I have tried several times to turn it on and off, have already removed the charging cable and pressed a few buttons, but at first it is just whirring away and the screen is still gray.
What should I do now?
If it goes down because it has run out of power, my complete PowerPoint presentation on physics is gone, as well as if I try to reboot, then everything will be gone.
How do I manage to re-enable the laptop without my presentation going missing?
If it is possible to take the battery out I would do that then it goes off the only presentation problem but I think there's no way around it.
Hard to tell from here what the cause of the failure is. In any case, take out the battery and work only with power supply.
If the computer even starts, you could try using a LIVE USB stick or a LIVE CD to boot, and then check if and what is left of the PowerPoint file. But at least you need access to another computer to create a LIVE medium.
In general, you are told that you can forget remote diagnostics. Everything can be possible. In the worst case, the hard drive has crashed or just another part of the hardware has given up the ghost. But what exactly can we not tell you with the best of intentions?
Do you have a second computer at hand? If so, remove the hard drive from your notebook and connect it there. Download a Linux image and then boot into the "live system". So with luck, at least get your PowerPoint presentation back.
