Problem: For a few days now, some keys and key combinations on my Win10 laptop no longer work as they should. This is really annoying in the long run. When writing texts (e.g. This one) I can't move the cursor with the arrow keys, delete anything with the Delete key (also no marked files, etc.), do not open the Task Manager with the usual key combination, do not switch between different desktops, etc.
I suspect that any program that I have loaded has changed the functions of the keys, or I have deactivated these shortcuts with a key combination. Google Search was unable to provide any helpful results. The keys are not defective because the key illumination is activated when the keys are pressed.
Unfortunately, I don't find any suitable functions under Settings> Devices> Input. Is there a way to reset all "keyboard settings"?
Sounds interesting. With a conventional keyboard, I would have now suspected that it may have such a slider that is thought that exactly these combinations are deactivated in games. I was wondering why my Windows keys e.g. Stop working.
Call the on-screen keyboard on which you can press keys with the mouse and see if the functions react there. All combinations are not possible there, but some like the arrow keys e.g.
Many thanks for the answer. (Unfortunately) the keys work with the on-screen keyboard. I can use the en and arrow keys as usual. However, the real keyboard does not respond.
It's kind of interesting. However, this means that the function of the remove key of Windows is not deactivated. Quite trivial, can you connect another keyboard?
External keyboard also works. So my approach is that it's fundamentally wrong because of the settings. I'm going to look for driver updates
I reinstalled the driver, but no function with some buttons. Normally I would say the keyboard is broken, but why is the backlight activated when I press the key? I also tried a keyboard tester online. This does not recognize the buttons either.
The keyboard lighting is regulated internally and has nothing to do with the actual output to the computer. Just plug the keyboard into a pure USB port where a keyboard can't do anything. E.g. On the television or on a radio. If you then press the button, it will probably also light up. Another idea. Do you have an OTG adapter with which you can connect peripheral devices to your cell phone? So keyboard and mouse are easy to use. Then you could test the keyboard. Because the arrow keys e.g. Are there normally also in function.
Sorry, I'm crazy I was thinking about a normal keyboard again.
Then we make it really easy. Shut down the computer and boot it into the BIOS or UEFI. There you definitely have to be able to move the arrow keys regardless of the operating system. You should test that. In my experience, Windows 10 is an old issue, which only targets such stupid errors.
Thank you for this feedback, I tried to work with the keys in the BIOS, but without success - probably a hardware defect.
I called Acer Support and will send the device in. Customer service told me that it was probably just a driver issue, but I don't believe it anymore.
No it is not. If it doesn't work in the bios, then something is wrong. We're talking about a crime scene from a laptop manufacturer. There's not even a place for loadable drivers in the BIOS area. This is a rudimentary standard communication between the devices. That must go!
Otherwise, if you send the part in, write it down on a piece of paper. If they are not stupid, it is clear that it can't be a driver problem. Without a hard drive, you should be able to move in the BIOS using the arrow keys.
