I have installed a Wi-Fi card in the laptop. But in many videos I see that people have an external WLAN card / stick. Do I need this to have Wi-Fi in a virtual box with Kali Linux?

Na

Nope, you don't need to. The host's network interface (whether WLAN or LAN) is virtualized as a LAN interface.

That works out-of-the-box for me.
