DJ controller not compatible?

I have a Hercules DJ Control Instinct P8 and actually use the matching software DJUCED.

However, I would like to use Serato Dj Pro, and have found that my controller is not compatible or it is not recognized by the software.

With DJUCED on the same laptop everything works fine. Does anyone have any idea what to do to bypass this and still use this controller?

It's a midi input and has all the necessary buttons, so there should be some way, right?

It is compatible you just have to download the mapping and initialize it, or you can map it yourself.

But why do you want to use serato? Oo. That's the playmobil among the legos. Better take a tractor.

Okay, thank you, I really like the software, but everyone has their own opinion 👌🏻What exactly does mapping mean?

mo

Mapping is exactly what the name suggests, the assignment of a hardware element to a software function, i.e. Your volume control on the Hercules to the midi-cc command that the software listens to and regulates the volume.

I know the software, believe me, no matter what genre, you are better off with tractor 1000x. Serato actually only lives from people who do not want to use a tractor "out of protest", e.g. It's a bit common in the hip-hop scene because a pubescent superstition has manifested itself that traktor was made for techno. In fact, tractor sets the tone among the dj programs and everyone else follows suit. You can rather take directly from the inventor instead of from the imitators.

Take a look at the remix decks at tractor AN. You can map your controller in such a way that you can sample channel a or b in real time with the buttons under the jogwheels, another press on the button spins the sample in the loop, another one stops or mutes the playback. The row of buttons underneath you could share or delete the sample / 2 or or or. Even with such a small hercules you have worlds where others will only follow suit.

Okay, I think that really convinced me. To be honest, I haven't heard that much from Traktor, but thanks for your tip.

Even if I'm a convinced tractor user myself, I would like to partly disagree. Traktor is definitely (unfortunately) not the software that sets the tone. There are many good features, but unfortunately also a lot of annoying ones. In addition to the still missing reverse, this includes the inability to set the start / stop speed, as well as the missing option to use controllers with rotating jog wheels á la RANE Twelve (MKI). Unfortunately, almost all leading manufacturers of controllers have turned their backs on Native Instruments and do not offer integration. This is particularly annoying with controllers like the DENON Prime series, the products from RANE and above all of course Pioneer. The situation is very different with Serato DJ Pro and Rekordbox. Anyone who wants to DJ with Pioneer will probably find it increasingly difficult to avoid Rekordbox in the future. And countless controllers are better supported by Serato than by Traktor. It's annoying, but it's a fact. Therefore I would NOT advise a beginner to use tractors across the board. The decision for or against a certain controller influences the decision for certain software more than ever.

As has already been written here, the software must know how to interpret the commands from the controller. Only then does the interaction between software and controller work.

There are software that are designed to be very open and can be used with almost all MIDI controllers. This includes e.g. Tractor Pro.

But there are software that only allow a very limited pool of controllers, such as Record box.

The sum of all commands that the software needs to know is called MIDI mapping. These packages can be downloaded for various combinations of software and controller on the manufacturer's website or in forums. Apparently, only mappings for Traktor, DJayPro and DJuced are offered for your controller. Therefore, there's no other option than to write a mapping yourself. With such a small controller, it's not rocket science. But it takes a while and you have to get into it. Here's how to do it:
