Connect a laptop beamer. Why does this not work?

What sounds banal turns out to be complicated.

I have my projector with VGA connected to the laptop. The desktop image is immediately on the wall.

But as soon as I open a program (PDF goes, Windows Mail too), the wall stays BLUE. So the transfer is not. Internet is synonymous not on the projector. A CD does not play either.

WHAT COULD THAT BE?
