I have a very bad laptop, but I would still like to play, unfortunately Steam won't run on my toaster. The question is whether there are any games (preferably indie and multiplayer) that run on every PC and laptop without Steam.
So if your laptop / toaster can't even manage Steam, you won't find any good, graphically interesting multiplayer games.
If Steam isn't running by itself, you can actually forget about it. I doubt your toaster will have any games running if it can't even get steam.
Check out Google Stadia. It doesn't matter what hardware you have, you just need decent internet. The game runs on Google's servers and is then streamed to you. I think there's currently a free trial month for the Pro subscription. There are some games to play for free
