It doesn't necessarily have to be "hot", it can also be as little as 60 °. The components in there just get hot during operation. A warmer case is usually a good sign because it is better to dissipate some of the heat through the case than if the hardware has no contact with the case and just boils away.

Or just air between the case and hardware. Then the hardware cooks happily at 100 °.
