This question is a bit strange. My laptop is about 9 years old. The old hard drive has reached its usual lifetime and has been replaced by a new one. What must / can I expect what could break next? Apart from creative work with programs from Adobe, the computer is not used computationally intensive.
Usually moving parts are the weak points, so probably the fan will start to make noise, possibly give the hinges to…
Every 5 years you have to expect a new battery (if you use it at all). The cooling fan would have to be defective for normal use already long ago. Furthermore, the USB ports and keyboard will wear out and due to the heavy heat load from the graphics chip, voltage regulator and main processor, the motherboard will soon say goodbye. But all this depends on the hours of operation and the usage behavior.
I let the laptop open and clean some time ago, thermal paste is also new… Does that make a big difference? The life of my laptop sounds utopian and of low use (clearly depending on the definition) can't talk to me.
Regular cleaning reduces the temperature load and increases the service life.
What breaks next is more of a lottery - not exactly predictable. The hinge from the screen can catch it, again the hard drive, sometimes a connection socket.
How is the battery? After 9 years, he should be completely in the bucket…
