Screen gets no HDMI signal from the laptop anymore?

For 2 years I have connected my laptop to an external monitor, which has always worked flawlessly. Last night was perfect too. This morning my external monitor gets "no signal" anymore. HDMI cable replaced; no change. Has my HDMI port on my laptop just gone broken overnight?
