I have a notebook with HDMI port, so I can connect my PC with the external video recorder, but I do not know how I get the picture now on my screen! Do I need a special app, or is there a really simple hand-wrench that I do not know?
Unfortunately without Video Grabber not at all. The HDMI port of the notebook is just output.
An external DVD drive for 15 euro is the simplest solution.

The HDMI connection will only be an output but not an input.
The HDMI connector will be an HDMI output with a high degree of caution.
But to connect a video recorder or similar devices you need an HDMI input. You can do this, for example Enable with an HDMI Capture Card. With the preinse of a reasonable capture card, it is cheaper to buy an external DVD drive, which you can then connect via USB.
Otherwise, if you have another computer with a DVD drive on the network, you can also share that computer's drive on the network and watch the DVD on your notebook.
