Data transfer with smartphone does not work properly. How do you fix the problem?

If I connect my smartphone to my laptop, it will only charge. There's also no message at the edge of the screen where you can usually choose whether to charge the device or transfer files. Everything is fine in Device Manager. My smartphone is also displayed in Windows Explorer. If you open the entry, however, you only see an empty folder or an empty window. I also tried different USB slots.

I then activated the developer options and selected the item Standard USB Configuration. There the following options are selected:

Device that controls the USB connection = This device
Use USB for = No data transfer

The latter I have changed to "data transfer" and then I could also transfer data.

Now the problem: If I remove the connection to the laptop and connect my smartphone again, "No data transfer" is selected automatically. It can't be that I have to change this every time in the developer options. Presumably yes "No data transfer" is selected, because the smartphone is usually only charged when connecting and then just above the bar on the edge of the screen, the appropriate option for data transfer must be selected. At that moment, my manually performed action would probably be selected in the developer options. At least that's how I imagine it.

Since when the bar no longer appears or There are problems with the data transfer, I do not know, but it has always worked. I have not changed anything in the system settings.

I have Android 9.

Who has an idea how to solve the problem?

An

So I really have no idea about that. I just throw a suggestion in the round

I have or had the same problem. The PC showed me an empty window. But as soon as I unlock the phone he shows me the phone itself and the SD card and that is always the case. If it is not unlocked while connected to the PC, the SD and mobile phone will not be visible either. That must have been set somewhere from the beginning.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.

Ta

The developer settings are preset for security reasons…

If you last did an Android update and it was different before, it probably only helps downgrade

Which smartphone?

Did you turn on the USB debugging mode in the developer options?

Did you switch off the developer mode again? Let him go.

Which smartphone?

Xiaomi Mi A2

Did you turn on the USB debugging mode in the developer options?

No. Does this have to be activated? At least I did not deactivate it myself.

For me it is activated, but do not know if that must be, just try it out.

However, I have 8.1.0 on my Moto G5
