So I mean in some laptops is intel i 5 8 generation and other intel i 7 7 generation where is the difference and is an i 5 processor 8 generation better than a i 7 with 7 generation?

These are the processors that a laptop or PC possesses. An Intel i7 is better than Intel i5. That's better than i3. But there are also other processors than Intel such as. AMD Ryzen.

Intel divides its processors into the performance classes Atom, Celeron, Pentium, i3, i5, i7, i9. This gives a rough indication of how strong the processor is. For example, atoms are used in tablets or very small laptops, while the i9 processors are among the strongest desktop processors that Intel has. As Intel brings out new processors again and again, just the generation is specified. The first digit in the model number of the Core i… Processors always indicates the generation. For example, the i7-8700K comes from the 8th generation and came out in 2017, a year later came out then the i7-9700K, which belongs to the 9th generation and is the successor to the i7-8700K.

Xeon's still available, but they are more for servers or workstations.

On Userbenchmark.com you can compare processors with each other, if you want to know which one is really stronger. For example, sometimes it's hard to tell if an older i7 is stronger than a current i5 or not. Such benchmark lists help, and there you can also compare the Intel processors with the AMD Ryzen processors.

AMD has a similar breakdown of performance classes with Athlon, Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen Threadripper.

This statement is too general and comes from version and clock rate of the CPU. For example, an older i7U is not much faster than a modern i3.

Intel Core processors are high performance processors. They are tailored to medium and high needs. I3, i5, i7, i9 does not mean the same! The Intel Core i3 processor is tailored to the first medium needs. The Intel Core i5 processor is tailored to slightly higher needs than the middle one. The Intel Core i7 processor is really for the right gamers. And for ultimate needs, clean up the Intel Core i9 processor! Each processor has a different processor speed specified in "GHz". "GHz" is an abbreviation and is called Gigaherz. The generations also say something about how powerful an Intel Core processor is.
