I have an old laptop where I unplugged the battery. It is on my desk with a cable. Now I wonder can the laptop somehow break because it is always being charged. Because it can't actually be overloaded.

Overcharging can happen with batteries. But if you connect the laptop directly to the power supply without a battery, the laptop can take the juice it needs directly. As is a printer.
If there's no battery in it, nothing can be overcharged. Printers should go into standby mode after a while, almost off.
