There must not necessarily be something broken.
Open Computer Management and look closer at the disk
1. Open the command prompt by typing "cmd" in the search box, right-click on the program and select "Run as administrator".
2. Type "diskpart" and press Enter to run the program.
3. And then type "list disk" to list all the disks on your computer.
4. Enter "select disk 1" and press Enter. Here Disk 1 is the USB drive.
5. Enter "clean" and press Enter.
6. Now enter "create partition primary", press Enter.
7. Type "format fs = fat32 quick" or "format fs = ntfs quick" and press Enter to format USB drive to FAT 32 or NTFS as needed.
Finally, type "exit" to finish, and you have already completed the task of formatting the USB key with Diskpart. Then you can enable the partition and map drive letters for the USB drive. But Diskpart is not dangerous for people who are not familiar with Diskpart because all operations can't be revoked once progress has started. Fortunately, there's another easy way to safely format USB flash drive.
