Advice for future computer scientists?

My little brother will soon finish high school and has (FINALLY) decided on a career. He will start training as an IT specialist for application development at a local company next year. The work there then probably with Windows and Linux. He was a little disappointed because he actually wanted iOS to focus on ^^

Now to my question:

He actually has nothing but an almost 7 year old PC in his room. Does he need a laptop or something else for his education? It's supposed to be fun. I would see that we get something organized for him until next year.

If people from this department are reading this, can you recommend something to him? Possibly also literature that he should definitely have a look at, or general tips and tricks. So everything that helps somehow so that he can start his apprenticeship with as much fun as possible and is well prepared for it.

Yeah, they want to program all apps ;-)

Nice of you that you take care of your brother. I do not know the training, but I have a son who studied something similar. A lot of information and programs for programming can be found on the Internet. There's nothing worse than an old PC pickle that never starts and then always crashes. So buy the boy something decent.

IOS has no future anyway, so that's fine.

I wouldn't buy him anything yet. During the training he will be communicated what he needs. Then just ask him.

Why buy something else?

If he has the apprenticeship position, he will also be provided with the necessary hardware and programs…

The company specifies the requirements as if it were responsible for it…

If it is otherwise, it is not worth more than your business cards…

Ps The old PC will survive for another year… You don't need outstanding hardware to program.
