Kali Linux programs can't be displayed on a screen?

I've had a laptop with the Kali Linux operating system for 2 weeks. Comes in pretty well, but I always have the following problem: When I connect an HDMI cable to my laptop, only the standard background is displayed. Neither programs nor anything else. Hope for a quick reply

Where does that appear? On the infected screen? If so, only the wrong mode is set to change the google simply according to how to expand the display in Linux instead of a display. Unfortunately I only know how this works for Windows.
