External hard drive is not displayed on laptop?

I tried to connect a Platinum external hard drive with 500GB, but it is not displayed normally and it is not accessible.
The power connection is already connected to 2 ports via the Y shape, the lamp lights up green and you can also hear start / stop noises when connecting. If you look in via Disk Management, the hard drive is not to be found there, but it is displayed in the device manager as a generic external harddrive.
Apparently she is not dead, but how can I give access to this disk?

po

Perhaps only the driver the disk needs is missing. Usually not necessary externally, but sometimes you can still use drivers.

Ke

So:

press windowstase + x

and go to disk management.

Lu

According to the amazon website there are no drivers for it, it is simply plug and play. I already had automatic search active in the device manager but it only said that there's no driver for it…

Aw

Open the menu run with [Windows] + [R].
Then type the command "diskmgmt.msc" in the box and click "OK" to open Windows Disk Management.

Ke

Then you have to format it as an external hard drive in the menu, which should appear there

Lu

And then? I was already there, but nothing was displayed. It is not even an inactive plate

Ke

(Easier with Win + x)

Lu

Only my other hard drives that are installed in the laptop are shown there, but not the external one.

Aw

I don't think so

po

You also don't search for drivers in an online shop for the best thing on the manufacturer's website.

Lu

Both variants work, but that doesn't help me because, as I said, it is not shown there

Ke

Does the hard drive have any USB requirements like USB3.0 etc?

Lu

The brand Platinum does not seem to have a website, or the one I found from a dealer has no downloads area

Lu

Only has usb 2.0 2x, is also plugged into the 2.0 port

Ke

Vlt. A hardware failure

po

It was only one way.
Something may not be right on the PC. It's always hard to measure without sitting in front of it.

Lu

I just found it in the disk manager, had only another name ^^ it has a blue and small black part and is mbr, but I have no idea what I can do with it

Ke

Right click and then format to an external hard drive

Lu

Already got it right now, just had to have the blue part deleted, then it was only 1 big black one. Then I could make a new volume out there and everything works now.
