Charge your mobile phone with a 65W power supply?

I'm currently in bed using my Galaxy Note 8, which only has 12% battery left and a 65W laptop charging cable next to me. If I use it to charge my phone, will I damage the battery because it is just too much for you? 😂

Sure, with some newer devices this would be easy to do, but my cell phone is from 2017 🤔

How many "watts" the charger can deliver has absolutely nothing to do with the power consumption of the cell phone. The tension it delivers is the more interesting in this case. So you can easily charge a cell phone with a "3 million watt" charger.

You can also lift a bottle of water with a crane that could hold 50 tons.

Me

I'm sorry, I don't know my way around that well. In any case, the output is 20 volts

Fo

The output of a cell phone charger is 5V. The cell phone is designed for this voltage. If you apply 20V there, something burns in the cell phone.

Me

OK. That's all I wanted to know 😂

Lo

You can do that, but your mobile phone will probably accept a maximum of 10-15 watts, since Samsung does not support power delivery

gr

The charging cable has a normal USB port, right? Then it will also support 5V.

Only when the connected device signals that it wants 20V does the charger also generate 20V.

So you can connect your cell phone there.

Le

This is not a problem, but your cell phone will not fill up faster because it can't consume the full 65 watts.

Where do you get this knowledge from?

Not every power supply is built like this. Or do you know which one the questioner is using?
