I bought a three in 1 USB cable for my cell phone and no data connection is that normal?

My cell phone charging cable was defective and so I had the choice of buying a single one just to charge my cell phone or for one euro more to charge three devices at the same time.

I then decided on the three in one so that I would no longer have to use a thousand cables in the future.

Now, of course, I also wanted to use it to transfer data from the notebook to the mobile phone. But the mobile phone only starts charging directly but does not show me the option of whether I want to transfer data or it should charge what else actually comes when the previous cable was connected to the notebook.

Now my question is that normal with my type of cable and do I still have to buy a single one that only charges my mobile phone and should not allow any further and thus data transmission or is my new cable defective?

Yes, I had already caught it 2 years ago in the 1 euro shop. Unfortunately not all pins are always switched through.
