How to check if your computer's hardware is compatible with Debian GNU / Linux?

In the future, I would like to swap Windows 7, which is currently installed on my laptop, for Debian GNU / Linux. The support for Windows 7 ends next year and therefore one should eventually switch to an alternative.

Is there any way to check if the hardware is compatible before installation? I've had problems with other computers in the past (sometimes with Wi-Fi or the graphics card).

Ou

I would Google the model with linux compatible

St

Most Linux distributions allow it to be used directly from the stick before you install it. Just test it out

De

You simply enter every component of the hardware in Google and write "debian"

This is easiest if you use a live system. If it is still one of the distro that you want to install it is a little bit better.

I will install a minimal version of Debian.

Al

Depending on how new the hardware is, it may be that you can't use everything in Debian because the kernel is older.

Which distribution do you use?

Which distribution do you use?

Lots!

On my main desktop: Manjaro / KDE
On my main laptop: openSUSE / KDE
On my garden laptop: Arch Linux / LXDE
On my test laptop: Arch Linux / KDE, Cinnamon, Mate, LXDE, XFCE and Enlightenment and others.
On my 2nd desktop PC: openSUSE / KDE
On the 3rd desktop PC: Debian / LXDE
On my home server: Proxmox (Debian)
On my servers in the data center: Proxmox (Debian, of course without desktop)

Quite a lot of systems. But I'm surprised that so many distributions are in use. Why do not you just use one?

Why should I commit myself?
I do that because I always like to think outside the box. And besides, there are only three big branches, Arch with * .xz, openSUSE with * .rpm and Debian with * .deb
It always depends on what requirements are placed on the operating system, which is in the foreground.

The garden laptop for example is a decrepit Thinkpad T41p and therefore no "thicker" desktop and a slim distribution. With KDE the device would be overwhelmed.
